What happens when you drink alcohol?

These enzymes break down ethanol (the type of alcohol found in drinks) into acetaldehyde, which is then further metabolised into acetate. However, the metabolism of alcohol produces toxic byproducts, including acetaldehyde, which can cause cellular damage and inflammation in various tissues, particularly in the liver.
